On Monday, September 4th the official opening ceremony for the Queensferry Crossing in Edinburgh, Scotland was held, marking a monumental occasion. After six years of being under construction, the first car traveled across the bridge on August 30th and five days later the bridge was closed one more time for the official opening ceremony. On Friday night, a monumental occasion occurred at the Tappan Zee Bridge project site as the Rockland-bound traffic on the existing bridge shifted over to the first span of the new design-build structure. The opening of the first span comes after four years of construction on the two, 3.1 mile, parallel, cable-stay crossings of the Hudson River. A huge milestone was achieved last week on July 31st at the Portageville Bridge Replacement project when AB crews successfully completed the final closure of the 483′ pinned arch structure. The milestone comes exactly 142 years – to the day – after the existing structure was first opened to rail traffic.
