In the Office: Behind the Desk Learning 

For interns working in our corporate and regional offices, every day looks different. Office based interns are places in departments like marketing, estimating, finance, pre-construction, safety or business development. Each department is different, but all contribute to projects that move the company in a better direction.  

Whether it is creating posts for social media, analyzing financial reports, or helping put together bids for upcoming projects, office interns gain exposure to how a large-scale construction company operates. The interns are mentored by industry professionals where they are invited to meetings and encouraged to ask questions and participate.

In the Field: Boots on the Ground Experience 

Meanwhile field interns work side-by-side with project engineers, safety officers, and project managers on active job sites across the country. From bridges and water treatment plants to tunnels and highways these interns are immersed in fast paced environment where work gets done.   

Field interns are trained to read plans, learn field operations, coordinate with subcontractors and stakeholders, and develop schedules. The overall goal is to give them a deep understanding of what it takes to deliver and be a part of world-class infrastructure.

Whether you are in the field or behind the desk, all interns at Southland are a part of the same collaborative culture. We bring all interns together through group site visits, social events, and a corporate volleyball team. We prioritize getting the interns to know each other and feel comfortable and reach out to one another. We ensure all interns are mentored by someone in their specific department to receive guidance and feedback throughout their time with us. We aim to create the future for our company.
