Completed in 1957 by American Bridge, the Walt Whitman Bridge project consisted of the supply and installation of the cable suspension system for a 3,540′ three-span suspension bridge over the Delaware River with a 2,000′ mainspan. The main cables were airspun from 37 strands of 308 wires each, totaling 11,396 wires per cable. The cable diameter is 23 3/8″ not including the wrap, with #6 gauge wires. The scope also included the saddles, cable bands, handrope, and the supply and erection of the suspender ropes.
