U.S. Navy Pier 31 Groton

Completed in 2012 by American Bridge, the U.S. Navy Pier 31 Groton project involved constructing a new 67′ by 550′ submarine pier, founded on 36″ steel pipe piles with rock sockets. The project included self-performing the demolition of the existing pier, cast-in-place concrete deck, and land-side excavation for utilities. Temporary work trestles were designed and built by American Bridge. Additional work included installing 194 polymeric piles for the fender system, pier apparatuses, and performing all on-site construction management. New safety initiatives, including a “Stretch and Flex” program, were also implemented.
