Tuxedo – Improvement 230 Intercommunity Relief Sewer

Completed in 2006 by Mole Constructors, the Tuxedo – Improvement 230 Intercommunity Relief Sewer project consisted of the excavation of 11,300 linear feet of 99-inch diameter tunnel for a sanitary sewer through shale including shaft excavations to depths of 100 vertical feet. Tunnel excavation was performed via a Dosco Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). The initial tunnel support is anticipated to be steel ribs and wood lagging. The final lining was a 60-inch diameter reinforced concrete pipe. The shafts were supported via liner plates within soft ground, and rock dowels, welded wire fabric and shotcrete within rock. Tangential approach flow, baffle-type flow and standard drop structure were constructed within the shafts.
