Throgs Neck Bridge

Completed in 1961 by American Bridge, the Throgs Neck Bridge project consisted of supplying and erecting the main cables, suspender ropes, suspended structure, and decks on anchorages for a 2,910′ (887m) suspension bridge with a 1,800′ (549m) mainspan. The 22?” (581mm) diameter main cables were airspun in 37 strands of 296 wires each. The 17’9″ (5.18m) deep stiffening trusses span 92’8″ (28.2m) center to center, with double suspender connections every 39’6″ (12m). The roadway is supported by 16 lines of 18″ (457mm) stringers and features a 5″ (127mm) filled steel grid deck.
