The United State Crane Railways

This project was for the construction of two new crane runways #2 and #3 at the Philadelphia Naval Yard, PA. Runway slip #2 had a width 163’101/2” from center to center at the towers and a length of 900’ center to center at the end towers in 100’ bays with overhang about 40’at the water’s end. The structure was about 170’ high consisting of towers, transverse and longitudinal riveted trusses, bracing runway beams and rails for 10 and 40 ton cranes elevator and ramp framing. Crane runway slip #3 was an addition to runway at slip #2. It had a width of 163’101/2” center to center at the towers and 700’ center to center at the end towers in 100’ bays with about 40’ overhang at the water’s end.
