Completed in 1971 by American Bridge, the Sunshine Skyway (2nd Cantilevered Truss) project involved fabricating and erecting a twin to the original 1954 bridge. The 5,621 long, 31-span bridge included deck girder, deck truss, and cantilevered through truss spans. It was demolished after being struck by a freighter in 1980 and replaced by a cable-stay bridge in 1987.
