Completed in 1988 by Mole Constructors, the Southwest Contract No. 5 project involved the construction of about 6,800 linear feet of 131-inch tunnel using a modified Lovat 126-inch/131-inch Tunnel Boring Machine. Excavation occurred through shale at a depth of 110 feet.
