Completed in 1989 by Mole Constructors, the Smith Road Interceptor project encompassed 8,500 linear feet of 78-inch tunnel, employing a Lovat 117-inch Tunnel Boring Machine and a Lovat 78-inch Tunnel Boring Machine at a depth of 40 feet. The tunnel was excavated through silty clay, accommodating a 60-inch diameter jack-pipe.
