San Francisco-Oakland Bay SAS Bridge (East Span)

Completed in 2014 by American Bridge, the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge Self-Anchored Suspension Superstructure involved building a 624m (2,049’) two-span self-anchored bridge. The main span was 565m (1,854’) with a 160m (525’) steel tower. The deck was 78m (256’) wide, made of twin steel boxes and a cantilevered bike path. The 1,400m (4,600’) main cable was continuous, with a total structural steel weight of 51,772mt. The project involved complex cable and deck construction, including a transfer from falsework to cable support. The bridge opened on Sept 2, 2013, and was completed on Sept 24, 2015.
