Completed in 2000 by American Bridge, the San Diego Convention Center addition involved fabricating and erecting 18,000 tons of steel, including beams, columns, and trusses. The 864,000 SF structure measures 1,200′ by 500′ (366m x 152m) and features three stories on precast concrete piles. The longest free span trusses were 220′ and weighed 150 tons each. The addition includes exhibit halls, meeting rooms, ballrooms, lobby space, and a service center.
