Completed in 1928 by American Bridge, the Roberto Clemente Bridge (Sixth Street Bridge) is one of the ‘Three Sisters’—self-anchored, eye-bar suspension bridges, along with the 7th and 9th Street Bridges. Its suspension system features 14″ eye-bars with pins atop each tower, supporting the roadway via 4″ eye-bar suspenders. The stiffening system includes triple web plate girders. American Bridge fabricated and erected all three bridges, using an innovative truss conversion method to enable balanced cantilever erection without river falsework.
