Completed in 1962 by American Bridge, the Robert D. Fleming (62nd Street) Bridge project consisted of the fabrication and erection of a 2,100-foot bridge connecting Pittsburgh with its suburb of Sharpsburg. The 16-span structure includes a four-span truss channel unit totaling 1,054 feet with a 400-foot center span, and a three-span girder unit of 494 feet with a 227-foot center span over an active railroad right of way. The bridge carries Pennsylvania Route 8 and replaced the earlier Sharpsburg Bridge built in 1901.
