Completed in 2004 by American Bridge, the RFK Triborough Bridge Rehabilitation/Deck Replacement project involved re-decking the 2,723’ suspension bridge with orthotropic panels and the 1,568’ Queens Viaduct with precast concrete panels. The project also included replacing 184 pairs of suspender ropes, widening the Queens Viaduct, and transferring the suspension bridge’s load to new hanger ropes. The deck was replaced using AB’s scissor jack method to minimize temporary loads. Additional work included replacing expansion joints, tightening cable band bolts, installing seismic restrainers, and adding new barriers.
