Queensboro Bridge Upper Roadway Replacement

Completed in 2022 by American Bridge, the Queensboro Bridge Upper Roadway Replacement involved replacing the 1982 concrete-filled grid deck with a new steel orthotropic deck. The project also included structural steel rehabilitation, barrier replacement, lighting, drainage improvements, painting, and a new fire standpipe system. The new deck, fabricated in Pennsylvania, was installed using custom crane gantries and welding machines. The project involved extensive planning, traffic management, and collaboration with local authorities to minimize disruptions. The new deck system is designed to extend the bridge’s service life by over 75 years.
