Completed by American Bridge, the Penstock Lines 3, 4, 5 & 6 project at Castaic Power Plant for the Department of Water & Power in Castaic, California, consisted of installing four penstock lines, each approximately 13 feet in diameter and 2,000 feet long. The penstock sections were fabricated at the Los Angeles plant, hauled to the site on a special Needle Beam hauling unit built by Peerless Industries for American Bridge Division, with hauling performed by American Bridge personnel. The sections were set on the base of the slope using a 4100w Crawler crane and erected in place with a hydraulically powered transport frame, which was used to carry, slew, and set the penstock sections within ¼ inch of their final position along the axis.The penstock sections are fabricated in the Los Angeles Plant, hauled to the site on a special needle beam hauling unit, built by Peerless Industries for American Bridge Division.
The hauling is done by American Bridge Division personnel. The sections are set on the base of the slope with a 4100W crawler crane and erected in please with a transport frame which is hydraulically powered to carry, slew and set the penstock sections within its final position within ¼ inch of any of the axis.
