Paseo Bridge

Completed in 1954, the Paseo Bridge project consisted of an 1,825-foot (556m) crossing of the Missouri River, including a unique 1,232-foot (376m) self-anchored suspension bridge. The project featured two-span continuous girder approaches on both the north and south sides. The two towers, 136 feet (41m) high and 84 feet (26m) wide, were made of cellular construction with built-up members. The stiffening girder system included two lines of box girders, 3’ 3-3/4” x 10’ 0-3/4” (1m x 3m). The superstructure was constructed on falsework, as the cables were anchored directly into the stiffening girders. The cables were made of 37 bridge rope strands, with 31 of 1 13/16” (46mm) and 6 of 1 ¼” (32mm) diameter, and the suspender ropes were 1 ½” (38mm) in diameter.
