Paisano Vally 48-inch Water Transmission Line

Completed in 2013 by Southland Contracting, the Paisano Vally 48-inch Water Transmission Line Project consisted of the installation of approximately 16,880 linear feet of owner furnished 48-inch steel water main of which 5,580 linear feet was installed in a 60-inch casing by trenchless method. The crew also excavated a 31-foot wide, 52-foot-deep mining shaft. Installation of eight owner furnished 48-inch butterfly valves and associated appurtenances. This project had numerous working restrictions prohibiting work in IBWC Canal area, UTEP Parking lot, TXDOT right of way and BNSF right of way during peak seasons. ORC accommodated the owner by working closely with owner’s representative, engineering firm and parties impacted by these alignment restrictions. Numerous tests were conducted by the owner, and it was discovered that contaminated material was located at the ASARCO site. ORC disposed of approximately 7,000 cubic yards of contaminated material at the ASARCO site, which was properly disposed of as required by the contract documents. Cathodic protection system was installed, tested and accepted. Asphalt paving repair for work performed in the street and replacement of concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter. This project’s purpose was to improve the quality of life for the residents of the City of El Paso by preventing massive and potential life-threatening waterline ruptures as well as conserving water and protecting the environment and existing infrastructure.
