Newtown Interceptor – Contract B

Completed in 1980 by Mole Constructors, the Newton Interceptor – Contract B project entailed a 433 linear foot tunnel with a diameter of 5 feet, employing unsupported drill and blast methods. It accommodated 48-inch reinforced concrete pipe and was excavated through shale at depths of 40 feet to 50 feet. Annulus backfill grouting was applied as part of the process.
