Completed in 2014 by Southland Contracting, the Magnolia Stormwater Forcemain Phase 1 Project consisted of the excavation of approximately 4,500 linear feet of 60-inch diameter force main in sandy soils. Construction of two 78-inch diameter steel encased TXDOT ROW tunneled crossings at Paisano Drive at State Highway 20 and Alameda Drive at State Highway 20, which required specific traffic control plans and certified flagging service. Installation of 12 manway assemblies, removal and replacement of 16,680 square yards of 4-inch asphalt pavement on 6-inch flexbase subgrade of asphalt concrete pavement. This phase also included relocation of 950 linear feet of 8-inch sewer line and 155 linear feet of water line. Hydrostatic Testing performed for all new pipelines on the project. The 78-inch tunneled under crossings included excavation, support systems (Trench Box Method or Shoring, Sheeting and Bracing Method), backfill and compaction of entry and receiving shafts/pits, concrete, settlement monitoring, installation of carrier pipe, and grouting of the casing. Located in the central area of El Paso. This was a multi-phase project aimed at reducing flooding on Interstate Highway 10 and adjacent low lying neighborhoods.
