Macombs Dam Bridge

Completed in 2004 by American Bridge, the Macombs Dam Bridge project involved a 52-span bridge with five major structure types. The work included the 35-span west approach viaduct, a two-span swingspan over the river, deck trusses over the Bronx bank, and a camelback truss span over a rail corridor. The project was completed in three winter stages with minimal disruption to traffic, using innovative techniques like installing floor joists without removing the concrete T’s and staging for demolition. Construction also included lead abatement, wheelbase replacement, and machinery updates.
