Completed in 1997 by American Bridge, the MacArthur Causeway Bridge project consisted of the construction of twin, 2,467′ 8 5/8″ (northern bridge) and 2,454′ (southern bridge), three-lane bridges with two 10′ shoulders and a 6′ pedestrian/bicycle walkway each. These 18-span AASHTO Bulb “T” bridges replaced the existing MacArthur Causeway. The bridges are super elevated. The project also included 2,838′ of divided roadway approach and demolition of the existing bridge. Work involved installation of 17 foundations13 underwater, which included 78 by 84″ cased drilled shafts, and four land foundations with forty-eight 48″ drilled shafts. Bottom of shaft caps were located 1′ below mean low water (MLW).
