LST 845

Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched December 7, 1944. Commissioned USS LST-845 on January 9, 1945. During World War II, USS LST-845 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Participated in the Okinawa Gunto operation (Assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto, May 29 to June 29, 1945). Following World War II USS LST-845 was assigned to Occupation and China service in the Far East for the following periods: September 6 to October 1, 1945; October 15 to December 1, 1945; April 6 to May 29, 1946; and July 10 to September 4, 1947. During the Korean War USS LST-845 participated in the following campaigns; North Korean Aggression (September 18 to November 2, 1950); Communist China Aggression (November 3, 1950 to January 24, 1951); Inchon landing (September 15 to 17, 1950); First UN Counter Offensive (January 25 to April 9, 1951; and Korean Defense Summer-Fall 1952 (November 27 to 30, 1952. Named USS Jefferson County (LST-845) on July 1, 1955. Decommissioned on November 28, 1960, at San Diego, CA. Laid up in the Pacific Reserve Fleet, San Diego Group. Struck from the Naval Register on February 1, 1961. USS LST-845 earned five battle stars for Korean War service. Final Disposition, sold to Zidell Explorations, Inc., Portland, OR., August 22, 1961 for scrapping.
