Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched December 3, 1944. Commissioned USS LST-844 on December 30, 1944. During World War II, USS LST-844 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Participated in the Okinawa Gunto operation (Assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto, May 29 to June 29, 1945). USS LST-842 earned one battle star for World War II service. Following World War II USS LST-844 was assigned to Occupation service in the Far East from 9 September to November 10, 1945. Decommissioned on September 17, 1947. Struck from the Naval Register on September 29, 1947. Sold for operation on June 28, 1948, to the Humble Oil & Refining Co., Houston, TX. Final Disposition, fate unknown.
