Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched September 8, 1944. Commissioned USS LST-768 on October 4, 1944. During World War II, USS LST-768 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Participated in three campaigns including the Iwo Jima operation (Assault and occupation of Iwo Jima, March 13 to 18, 1945), Okinawa Gunto operation (Assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto, May 1 to June 10, 1945), and Minesweeping operations (Fukuoka (Kyushu-Korea Area), November 28 to December 5, 1945). USS LST-768 earned three battle stars for World War II service. Following World War II USS LST-768 was assigned to Occupation service in the Far East from 20 September to 15 December 1945. Decommissioned on April 15, 1946. Struck from the Naval Register on June 5, 1946. Final Disposition, sold for commercial operations on December 18, 1947, to Humble Oil & Refining Co., Houston, TX.
