LST 764

Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched August 21, 1944. Commissioned USS LST-764 on September 13, 1944. During World War II, USS LST-764 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Participated in the Iwo Jima operation (Assault and occupation of Iwo Jima, February 19 to March 16, 1945). USS LST-764 earned one battle star for World War II service. Following World War II USS LST-764 was assigned to Occupation and China service in the Far East for the following periods: September 2 to October 17, 1945 and November 5 to December 16, 1945. Decommissioned on April 30, 1946. Struck from the Naval Register on July 3, 1946. Final Disposition, sold for scrapping on December 11, 1947, to Southern Shipwrecking Co., New Orleans, LA.
