Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched July 25, 1944. Commissioned USS LST-758 on August 19, 1944. During World War II, USS LST-758 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Participated in three campaigns including Iwo Jima operation (Assault and occupation of Iwo Jima, February 19 to 26, 1945), Okinawa Gunto operation (Assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto, April 2 to May 30, 1945), and Minesweeping operations Pacific (Fukuoka (Kyushu-Korea Area), November 28 to December 14, 1945). USS Duval County earned three battle stars for World War II service and four battle stars for Korean service as USS LST-758. Following World War II USS LST-758 was assigned to Occupation and China service in the Far East for the following periods: September 20 to 25, 1945 and February 15 to 17, 1953. Decommissioned on July 13, 1946 and laid up in the Reserve Fleet. Recommissioned on November 3, 1950 with a US Navy crew. During the Korean War USS LST-758 participated in the following campaigns: UN Summer-Fall Offensive (July 12 to September 2, 1951 and October 29 to November 23, 1951); Korean Defense Summer-Fall 1952 (November 14 to 20, 1952); Third Korean Winter (December 10 to 18 and 22 to 23, 1952; January 3 to 31, 1953; March 14 to 30, 1953; and 12 April 7 to 12 1953); Korean Summer-Fall 1953 (July 7 to 8, 13, and 24 to 27, 1953). Named Duval County (LST-758) on July 1, 1955. Decommissioned on October 13, 1969. Custody transfer to the Maritime Administration (MARAD) for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, James River, Lee Hall, VA. Struck from the Naval Register on November 1, 1976. Final Disposition, sold for scrapping by MARAD on August 18, 1981, to North American Smelting Co., for $81,111,11.
