LST 681

Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched July 1, 1944. Commissioned USS LST-681 on July 25, 1944. During World War II, USS LST-681 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Participated in two campaigns including Luzon operation (Lingayen Gulf landings, January 9, 1945) and Okinawa Gunto operation (Assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto, April 2 to June 7, 1945). USS LST-681 earned two battle stars for World War II service. Following World War II USS LST-681 was assigned to Occupation service in the Far East from 25 October 1945 to 12 March 1946. Decommissioned on September 6, 1946. Struck from the Naval Register on October 8, 1946. Final Disposition, sold for scrapping on October 9, 1947, to Mr. William E. Skinner.
