LST 679

Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched June 20, 1944. Commissioned USS LST-679 on July 15, 1944. During World War II, USS LST-679 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Participated in two campaigns including Leyte operation (Leyte landings, November 5 to 29, 1944) and Consolidation and capture of the Southern Philippines (Mindanao Island landings, April 17 to 23, 1945). USS LST-679 earned two battle stars for World War II service. Following World War II USS LST-679 was assigned to Occupation service in the Far East from September 15, 1945 to April 10, 1946. Decommissioned on June 24, 1946. Struck from the Naval Register on July 31, 1946. Final Disposition, sold for scrapping on May 25, 1948, to Bethlehem Steel Co., Bethlehem, PA.
