Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched June 6, 1944. Commissioned USS LST-676 on June 20, 1944. Converted to a Benewah Class Self-propelled Barracks Ship at Waipio Amphibious Operating Base, West Loch Pearl Harbor, TH., redesignated Landing Ship Tank (Modified), USS LST(M)-676 in October 1944. Redesignated and named USS Yavapai (APB-42) on March 1, 1945. During World War II USS LST(M)-676 / USS Yavapai (APB-42) was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Participated in the Iwo Jima operation (Assault and occupation of Iwo Jima, February 20 to April 27, 1945). USS LST(M)-676 / USS Yavapai (APB-42) earned one battle star World War II service. Following World War II USS Yavapai (APB-42) was assigned to Occupation and China service in the Far East for the following periods: September 6, 1945 to April 8, 1946 and April 17 to 20, 1946. Decommissioned on December 3, 1946, at Charleston Naval Shipyard, Charleston, S.C. Laid up in the Atlantic Reserve Fleet. Struck from the Naval Register on May 1, 1959. Sold on September 11, 1959. Final Disposition, fate unknown.
