LST 673

Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched May 22, 1944. Commissioned USS LST-673 on June 9, 1944. During World War II USS LST-673 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Participated in four campaigns including Leyte operations (Leyte landings, October 18 to November 29, 1944), Luzon operation (Mindoro landing, December 12 to 18, 1944 and Lingayen Gulf landings, January 4 to 17, 1945), Consolidation and capture of the Southern Philippines (Mindanao Island landings, April 17 to 23, 1945) and Borneo operation (Balikpapan operation, June 25 to July 10, 1945). USS LST-673 earned four battle stars for World War II service. Following World War II USS LST-672 was assigned to Occupation service in the Far East for the following periods: September 18 to October 13, 1945; December 18, 1945 to January 21, 1946; and February 13 to March 7, 1946. Decommissioned on June 10, 1946. Struck from the Naval Register on August 15, 1946. Final Disposition, sold for scrapping on October 27, 1947, to Moore Dry Dock, Co., Oakland, CA.
