LST 669

Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched May 3, 1944. Commissioned USS LST-669 on May 27, 1944. During World War II USS LST-669 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Participated in two campaigns including Leyte operations (Leyte landings, October 16 to 30 and November 9 to 29, 1944) and Okinawa Gunto operation (Assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto, June 12 to 28, 1945). USS LST-669 earned two battle stars for World War II service. Following World War II USS LST-669 was assigned to Occupation service in the Far East for the following periods: September 2 to 13, 1945; October 27 to December 3, 1945; January 1 to 20, 1946; and February 23 to March 11, 1946. Decommissioned on August 13, 1946. Struck from the Naval Register on September 25, 1946. Final Disposition, sold for scrapping on May 10, 1948, to Bethlehem Steel Co., Bethlehem, PA.
