Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched April 24, 1944. Commissioned USS LST-666 on May 16, 1944. During World War II USS LST-666 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Participated in six campaigns including Western New Guinea operation (Morotai landings, September 15, 1944), Leyte operations (Leyte landings – Tacloban, October 16 to 30 and November 9 to 29, 1944), Luzon operation (Lingayen Gulf landings, January 4 to 18, 1945), Manila Bay-Bicol operation (Zambales-Subic Bay, January 29 to 30, 1945), Consolidation and capture of the Southern Philippines (Palawan Island landings, Puerto Princessa, March 1 to 2, 1945. Visayan Island landings, Iloilo, Panay Island and Pulupandan, Negros Island, March 18 and March 29 to April 1, 1945), and Borneo operation (Balikpapan operation, June 26 to July 9, 1945). USS LST-666 earned six battle stars for World War II service. Following World War II USS LST-666 was assigned to Occupation service in the Far East for the following periods: September 28 to December 12, 1945 and December 20, 1945 to January 5, 1946. Decommissioned on June 20, 1946. A total of 314 officers and men served aboard USS LST-666 during the ship’s 25 months of commissioned service. Struck from the Naval Register on July 31, 1946. Final Disposition, sold on September 26, 1947, to Sun Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., Chester, PA. for scrapping.
