LST 663

Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched April 8, 1944. Commissioned USS LST-663 on May 5, 1944. During World War II USS LST-663 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Participated in three campaigns including Western Caroline Islands operation (Capture and occupation of southern Palau Islands, Peleliu, September 6 to October 14, 1944), Leyte operations (Leyte landings, October 18 to November 6, 1944) and Okinawa Gunto operation (Assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto, April 1 to June 24, 1945). USS LST-663 earned three battle stars for World War II service. Decommissioned on May 29, 1946. Struck from the Naval Register on July 19, 1946. Transferred to the Maritime Commission, December 11, 1947, for disposal. Final Disposition, sold for scrapping on December 11, 1947, to Southern Shipwrecking Co., New Orleans, LA.
