LST 660

Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched March 24, 1944. Commissioned USS LST-660 on April 26, 1944. During World War II USS LST-660 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Participated in four campaigns including Western Caroline Islands operation (Capture and occupation of southern Palau Islands, Peleliu, September 6 to October 14, 1944), Leyte operation (Leyte landings, November 5 to 18, 1944), Manila Bay-Bicol operations (Zambales-Subic Bay operation, January 29 to 30, 1945) and Okinawa Gunto operation (Assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto, April 1 to 9, 1945). USS LST-660 earned four battle stars for World War II service. Following World War II USS LST-660 was assigned to Occupation service in the Far East for the following periods: September 6 to 23, 1945 and December 19, 1945 to January 4, 1946 (Navy Occupation Service Medal). Decommissioned on April 26, 1946. Final Disposition, sold for scrapping on May 17, 1948, to Bethlehem Steel Co., Bethlehem, PA.
