LST 658

Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched March 13, 1944. Commissioned USS LST-658 on April 17, 1944. During World War II USS LST-658 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Participated in four campaigns including Western Caroline Islands operation (Capture and occupation of southern Palau Islands, Peleliu, September 15 to October 14, 1944), Leyte operation (Leyte landings, October 18 to November 6 and November 19 to 29, 1944), Luzon operation (Lingayen Gulf landings, January 4 to 18, 1945) and Okinawa Gunto operation (Assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto, April 1 to 9, 1945). USS LST-658 earned four battle stars for World War II service. USS LST-658 transported LCT-773 to Western Caroline Islands for the attack on the Palau Islands. Following World War II USS LST-658 was assigned to Occupation and China service in the Far East for the following periods: September 2 to October 18, 1945 and November 1, 1945 to June 1, 1946 (Navy Occupation Service Medal) and November 1, 1945 to June 1, 1946 (China Service Medal). Decommissioned on June 1, 1946. Transferred to the State Department for disposition. Struck from the Naval Register on July 3, 1946. Final Disposition, fate unknown.
