Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched January 23, 1944. Commissioned USS LST-653 on April 1, 1944. During World War II USS LST-653 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Following World War II USS LST-653 was assigned to Occupation service in the Far East for the following periods: September 2 to November 18, 1945 and December 23, 1945 to February 3, 1946. Decommissioned on February 3, 1946 and assigned to Commander Naval Forces Far East (COMNAVFE) Shipping Control Authority for Japan (SCAJAP), redesignated Q039. Struck from the Naval Register on March 5, 1947. Sold to the government of South Korea on May 31, 1947. Final Disposition, fate unknown.
