LST 292

Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched November 28, 1943. Commissioned USS LST-292 on January 5, 1944. During World War II USS LST-292 was assigned to the Europe-Africa-Middle East Theater. Participated in the Invasion of Normandy (June 6 to 25, 1944). USS LST-292 earned one battle star for World War II service. Decommissioned on January 25, 1946. Sold for scrapping on January 21, 1948, to Hughes Bros., New York, N.Y.
Final Disposition, stranded on the Outer Banks of Cape Hatteras, N.C. after parting her towline during a storm.
