LST 286

Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched October 27, 1943. Commissioned USS LST-286 on December 11, 1943. During World War II USS LST-286 was assigned to the Europe-Africa-Middle East Theater. Participated in two campaigns including the Invasion of Normandy (June 6 to 25, 1944) and Invasion of Southern France (August 15 to September 25, 1944). USS LST-286 earned two battle stars for World War II service. Following World War II USS LST-286 was assigned to Occupation service in the Far East for the following periods: September 28 to November 22, 1945 and December 9 to 18, 1945. Decommissioned on March 30, 1946. Final Disposition, sold to Bethlehem Steel Co., Bethlehem, Pa., on April 15, 1948 for scrapping.
