LST 282

Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched October 3, 1943. Commissioned USS LST-282 on November 12, 1943. During World War II USS LST-282 was assigned to the Europe-Africa-Middle East Theater. Participated in two campaigns including the Invasion of Normandy (June 6 to 25, 1944) and Invasion of Southern France (August 15 to September 25, 1944). USS LST-282 earned two battle stars for World War II service. Sunk by a German radio-controlled bomb off southern France on August 15, 1944.
