LST 273

Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched August 8, 1943. Commissioned USS LST-273 on September 24, 1943. During World War II USS LST-273 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Participated in six campaigns including Marshall Islands operation (Capture and occupation of Kwajalein and Majuro Atolls, January 31 to February 8, 1944 and Occupation of Eniwetok Atoll, February 17 to 23, 1944), Marianas Islands operation (Capture and occupation of Saipan, June 15 to July 28, 1944), Tinian capture and occupation (July 24 to 28, 1944), Western Caroline Islands operation (capture and occupation of southern Palau Islands, September 6 to October 14, 1944), Luzon operation (Lingayen Gulf landings, January 9, 1945), and Okinawa Gunto operation (Assault and occupation of Okinawa Gunto, April 2 to 15, 1945). USS LST-273 earned six battle stars for World War II service. Following World War II LST-273 was assigned to Occupation service in the Far East from October 22 to 29, 1945. Dicommissioned on August 13, 1946. Final disposition, sold for scrapping on November 3, 1947 to Hugo Neu Steel Products Corp., New York, N.Y.
