LST 271

Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched July 25, 1943. Commissioned USS LST-271 on September 1, 1943. During World War II USS LST-271 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Participated in five campaigns including Marshall Islands operation (Capture and occupation of Kwajalein and Majuro Atolls, January 31 to February 8, 1944), Marianas Islands operation (Capture and occupation of Saipan, June 15 to July 28, 1944), Tinian capture and occupation (July 24 to 28, 1944) Western Caroline Islands operation (capture and occupation of southern Palau Islands, September 6 to October 14, 1944), and Luzon operation (Lingayen Gulf landings, January 9, 1945). USS LST-271 earned five battle stars for World War II service. Dicommissioned on April 22, 1946. Final disposition, fsold for scrapping on April 15, 1948 to Basalt Rock Co., Inc., in Napa, CA.
