LST 263

Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched February 27, 1943. Commissioned USS LST-263 on June 30, 1943. During World War II USS LST-263 was assigned to the Europe-Africa-Middle East Theater. Participated in the Convoy UGS-37 on April 11 through 12, 1944 and the Invasion of Southern France on August 15 through September 25, 1944. USS LST-263 earned two battle star for World War II service. Dicommissioned on May 29, 1946 and laid up in the Reserve Fleet. Renamed Benton County (LST-263) on July 1, 1955. Sold in 1959. Documented in 1971 as the freight barge TNT Puerto Rico owned and operated by TNT Trailer Ferry Inc., Jacksonville FL. Final disposition, fate unknown.
