Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched February 13, 1943. Commissioned USS LST-262 on June 16, 1943. During World War II USS LST-262 was assigned to the Europe-Africa-Middle East Theater. Participated in the Convoy UGS-36 on April 1, 1944 and the Invasion of Normandy on June 6 through 25, 1944. USS LST-262 earned two battle stars for World War II service. Dicommissioned on January 14, 1946. Final disposition, sold for scrapping on December 9, 1947 to N. Block and Co. in Norfolk, VA.
