Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched February 24, 1945. Commissioned USS LST-1090 on April 2, 1945. During World War II, USS LST-1090 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Following World War II USS LST-1090 was assigned to Occupation service in the Far East for the following periods: September 20 to October 3, 1945; October 15 to 28, 1945; and November 10, 1945 to January 4, 1946. Decommissioned on July 22, 1946, at Vancouver, WA. Laid up in the Pacific Reserve Fleet, Columbia River Group. Recommissioned on November 3, 1950, at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, WA. During the Korean War USS LST-1090 participated in the following campaigns: First UN Counter Offensive (April 7 to 9, 1951); Communist China Spring Offensive (September 1 to 7, 1951); UN Summer-Fall Offensive (September 1 to 7, 1951); Third Korean Winter (March 14 to 26, 1953 and April 7 to 30, 1953); and Korean Summer-Fall 1953 (May 1 to 2, 1953; June 16 to 18, 1953; and July 20 to 22 and 27, 1953). Named Russell County (LST-1090), July 1, 1955. Decommissioned on April 5, 1960, at San Diego, CA. Struck from the Naval Register, November 1, 1960. USS Russell County earned five battle stars for Korean War service. Sold in 1961 to Indonesia and renamed Tandjung Radja in 1963. Final Disposition, severely damaged by grounding and discarded by Indonesian Navy, fate unknown.
