Completed in 2017, the Lewis & Clark Bridge; US 85 over Missouri River project consisted of the construction of a six-span, continuous deck unit, 1,522 foot long by nearly 85 feet wide, four lane, high-level bridge spanning the Missouri River. All the construction of the river crossing was performed from temporary trestle. The project also included a wildlife relief bridge, nearly five miles of associated roadway widening and removal of the existing bridge structure. Thirty-five (35) foot deep cofferdams were used to construct the bridge piers while protecting the endangered fish species in the river. One span of the bridge crosses the BNSF tracks so extensive coordination with the railroad was required.
