Lake Union (Aurora Ave. – George Washington) Bridge

Completed in 1931 by American Bridge, the Lake Union (Aurora Ave. – George Washington) Bridge project consisted of a 2,100’ (640m) deck truss bridge containing two cantilever spans centered on the main piers of 325’ (99m). The curved bottom chord of the truss gives it an aesthetic ‘arch’ appearance. A 150’ (46m) suspended Warren Truss makes up the remainder of the 475’ (145m) main span. There are additional truss approach spans. The bridge was erected by balanced cantilever, including the suspended span, which was temporarily fixed.
