Completed in 1924 by American Bridge, the La Barra Bridge project consisted of fabricating and erecting a 1,318′ bridge over the Rio La Barra, east of Punta del Este. The bridge consists of a 145′ through truss, a 193′ swing span, and a 980′ cantilevered truss with one anchor arm, two cantilever arms, and two suspended spans. The bridge carried both highway and rail traffic. It was replaced by the famous ‘wavy’ bridge in 1965.
