Completed in 2009 by Southland Contracting, the Kansas River Tunnel Project consisted of the excavation of approximately 1,440 linear feet of 88-inch diameter tunnel using a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and install is a 60-inch treated water transmission main beneath the Kansas River. The tunnel was excavated in rock. The project included the excavation of two shafts 125 and 140 vertical feet deep. The shaft excavations were blind bored.
